PU's Faculty Bags Best Institute For Tools And Technology Award

Faculty of Technology and Engineering of city-based Parul University has bagged the best institute for tools and technology award at the third CMAI CCI Technology Education Excellence Awards 2015.
The third CMAI CCI technology education excellence awards 2015 were held at Ahmedabad.
Consortium of Co-chairpersons industry (CCI) and communication multimedia applications infrastructure (CMAI) association of India recognizes excellence in different aspects of working of technology universities.
CMAI is India's largest ICT association with 48,500 members and 54 MoU partners across the globe.
Professor Ruchi Srivastava, principal of Parul Institute of Engineering and Technology (diploma studies) received the award on behalf of the university from the hands of Dr Akshai Aggarwal, vice-chancellor of Gujarat Technological University and professor N K Goyal, president of CMAI Association of India.
The award function was a part of third conclave on Afro-Asian countries which was graced by ambassadors and high commissioners of embassies of African countries.
From Gujarat, five universities have made it to the final award. Apart of Parul University, Nirma University, PDPU, CHARUSAT University and R K University bagged awards in different categories.
Paramedical, Medical Admissions From July 27

Admissions for medical and paramedical courses will begin from July 27. The detailed admission programme has been displayed on the official website of the Admission Committee for Professional Medical Educational Courses.
The panel said admissions for the 11,000-odd seats will be conducted together with offline admissions and the process will end on August 12. They said this time the panel decided to administer a common test for all medical and paramedical courses.
Medical Studies To Cost A Fortune

The Fee Regulatory Committee has announced a revised fee structure with a steep hike in fees payable for undergraduate dental, physiotherapy and nursing courses, and also for postgraduate medical and dental courses in self-financed institutes (SFIs). The hike in fees ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 in the undergraduate courses. In the postgraduate disciplines, the fee hike is to the tune of Rs 16,000 to Rs 2.47 lakh.
However, the committee is yet to declare the fee structure for government colleges run by the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society. These include medical colleges in Sola, Gotri, Gandhinagar, Patan and Valsad. The current fee structure in these colleges is about Rs 2.5 lakh.
Officials said the fee structure for the government colleges will also be announced soon and the new students will have to give an undertaking to pay fees as per the new structure. According to the fee regulatory committee, there will be no mid-session revision of fee. For example, if a student takes admission for a fee of Rs 2.5 lakh, he will be required to pay the same fee throughout his course.
Health commissioner J P Gupta, who is also member-secretary of the Fee Regulatory Committee, said there are 120 medical, dental, physiotherapy and nursing colleges.
"For the nursing course, the revised fee will be announced soon," said Gupta. "In order to make the fee hike less of a burden for regular students, we have kept the fee hike to a reasonable level. However, for NRI and management quota seats, the hike in fees is substantial."
Gupta said the new fee structure is based on the books of accounts of colleges which have details of their expenses and income. He further said that the fee hike is in the range of 15% to 25%.
NIF Signs Agreement With Jomo Kenyatta University Of Agriculture And Technology

National Innovation Foundation - India (NIF) has signed an agreement with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT-Kenya) for the establishment of innovation cooperation between both the organizations.
NIF and JKUAT have agreed to collaborate efforts in the areas of developing long term strategies and plan of action to help in the advancement of individual and community level creativity and innovation, sharing resources and expertise to develop specific programs for community development, jointly developing a system to assist innovators in converting their ideas into commercially and socially viable innovations, creating new platforms for creative ideas and innovations to be recognized and showcased periodically increasing the pool of commercially viable as well as open source innovations.
The MoU was signed by Dr Vipin Kumar, Director and Chief Innovation Officer, National Innovation Foundation - India and Prof. Mabel Imbuga, Vice Chancellor in presence of Prof Anil K Gupta, Executive Vice Chair of NIF, Suleman H O Okech, Director, Nairobi Industrial & Technology Park and other colleagues from NIF, JKUAT and Honey Bee Network.
Based at Ahmedabad, NIF is an autonomous organization of the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, providing institutional support to innovators from the informal sector whereas JKUAT is a premier university of Kenya, providing accessible quality training, research and innovation in the fields of agriculture, engineering, technology, enterprise development, built environment, health sciences, social sciences and other applied sciences.
Saurashtra University Bans Bathing In Campus Check Dams

Saurashtra University authorities have banned bathing and washing of clothes by people in the check dams built on the university campus to prevent occurrence of any accidents.
The security agency on the university has been alerted in this regard.
The university will soon put notice boards near check dams asking people not to venture into the water bodies for their safety.
Last week, two children from a nearby village had drowned in a water body located on the university campus.
"This decision has been taken to save human lives," Pratapsinh Chauhan, vice-chancellor of Saurashtra University said.
MSU Students Can Pay Fee Online

MS University (MSU) will introduce online fee payment facility for students registered with permanent registration number (PNR) of the university. Students of second year and onwards will be able to pay the fee online at any point of time.
The facility will be available to students throughout the day. The application is expected to benefit more than 30,000 students of the university. The feature will be launched on July 16. Within 15 days, the facility of paying the fee by debit and credit cards will also be linked with the second year online admissions.
Answer Sheets Of 4 Students ‘not Traceable’

Gujarat University is worried because the agency, Shree Computers, has failed to provide the answer sheets of four students whom the university suspects to be involved in tampering with the final results. The university suspects the four students to have played a role in inflating marks obtained in their final exams.
GU officials said that the university had asked for 28 answer sheets of these four students but the agency, Shree Computers, had been delaying the matter. It has informed the GU authorities that the answer sheets are not traceable and that they will find the same and return it to the university.
University officials said that after assessment of answer sheets, they are sent to the agency for entering the marks. However, the answer sheets have to be returned to GU after the entire examination and evaluation process are over.
In this case, the agency has claimed that they cannot trace the answer sheets of the four students. Once they are traced, they would be returned to the university, the agency has said.
The entire scam came to light when a girl, topping the university for five semesters, found that she was ranked 11th in the BCom final exam. She was shocked to find that the toppers who had got gold medals had not been such great performers during their preliminary exams. After she lodged a complaint with GU authorities, the subsequent probe blew the lid off the scam.
On Wednesday, the girl came to meet the vice-chancellor and informed him that she had even drawn the attention of the controller of examination to a possible scam but the examination controller had not paid attention to her complaint.
Further, she has sought all her answer sheet under the Right to Information Act. On Wednesday, she told the VC that her answer sheets had not been evaluated properly. She said that in a question of 10 marks, she was given five and also there were errors in totalling.
Vice-chancellor M N Patel assured the girl that if there is an error in the total, it will be rectified but the entire answer sheet cannot be re-evaluated.
Gujarat Technological University To Host First National Workshop On Smart Cities

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) Graduate School of Smart Cities Development (GSSCD), first-of-its-kind in Asia, has announced a national professional training workshop on smart cities development. The workshop is scheduled to be held from July 10 to 12 at GTU.
In the workshop, one day will be dedicated for watching various projects and analyse them like GIFT city, Smart Urban Governance and Urban Renewal Mission, Prof. Rajnikant Patel, Director, GTU Graduate School of Smart Cities Development, said.
The workshop will broadly cover the following key thematic aspects:
· Understanding smart cities (concepts, definitions and practices)
· Smart cities bench marks, standards and performance measurement indicators
· Technological options for smart cities
· Financing smart cities development
· Road map and safeguards for smart cities
100-ft Tower For IIT-Gn Students To Unwind

With IIT-Gandhinagar starting the process of moving to its permanent campus in Palaj village of the state capital, all eyes are on a 100-foot tall iconic tower that the institute is building as students' activity area.
"The tower will be as tall as a 10-storey structure and will have observation decks for students and their activity area on the top floor," said Prof Harish Palanthandalam-Madapusi of mechanical engineering department, who is looking after the ongoing campus work at Palaj. The intricately-carved tower, which is being erected with red pigmented concrete, will also house a student canteen and cafeterias on first and second floor. A sprawling green belt and two natural lakes will surround the intricately-carved tower on the 400-acre campus on the banks of the Sabarmati River. tnn
Touted as one of the swankiest campuses in the country, the building will also have a 600-seater auditorium, sports stadium and shopping arcades.
According to officials, IIT-Gn has so far spent Rs 400 crore on the new campus.
For the past few years, IIT-Gn has been functioning from a temporary facility at Vishwakarma Engineering College in Chandkheda. The original move to shift to the permanent campus was scheduled for mid-December, but the project got delayed.
Some other unique features of the new campus include the famous courtyard style 'jaali' ventilation system and Pol streets. Officials said they have used the mesh used in Walled City Pols in hostels and residential quarters of teachers since they are meant for adequate ventilation and sunlight.
